This set of comprehensive educational resources provides practical information on how to make the best use of computers in general practice. The resources cover clinical and administrative uses of computers, provide tips for enhancing computer security, and raise some legal and ethical issues for consideration.

The resource includes:

  • A series of plain English education modules providing information on the use and impact of IM/IT in general practice
  • A divisional guide on how to use the educational modules gpcg_cover_prelims.pdf gpcg_cover_prelims.pdf (1.42 MB)

The five modules are to be used in conjunction with existing divisional IM/IT resources, and are written in such a way that technical expertise is not required to understand and use them. The modules can be used by GPs and general practice staff as stand alone resources, but will be best used by divisions as support material for their own IM/IT educational programs.

Mention of particular software packages or websites in the education package is not meant as an endorsement of any one product over another. These are simply used as examples. The modules are not intended to replace the guidelines provided in other publications, such as the RACGP Standards for General Practices, or privacy legislation.

When in doubt about any IM/IT issue, seek technical or legal advice.

Education Modules 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5

Modules 1-5 are available individually below or may be downloaded as a single file (recommend dowload to hard disk prior to opening).
